This detail of a painting of 133 by Bill Maecker, shows the intricate moldings, substantial materials and sense of aesthetics of days gone by- 133 is an elegant example of what architects and builders attempt to recreate today- they always seem to come 'close, but not quite'...

Restoration at 133...

For 14 years, Bill Maecker has been working on the restoration of 133 Central... and, it's 'almost there...' The original orange-purple hand made bricks have been painted more than once- yellow, blue, purple, green, an amazing grouping of colors from the 'Hippie' days- 'psychedelic' paint schemes are under a conservative topcoat of cream- 133 has been a painted lady, and is now reformed to an eloquent, stately set of hues. The picture below is one of the bricks that was hidden under wide trim boards about thirty feet up...are the initials 'SM' or 'WS' ? We may never know- it was probably inscribed by a brick mason building 133...

The Amish have made all new exterior trim work for us, from originals- it'll be great to see them go up this spring-! There are over a hundred corbels, and dozens of brackets- the largest ones are made up of ten pieces each, and are very elegant.

In 2005, we had a major breakthrough- bought an 'Articulating, Telescoping Man-lift'. It's great... now we can reach where we couldn't before- a wonderful thing, when you're 40 feet in the air!

The picture below is from around 1902..(?) You can see the original porch/entrance on the side- which was widened later to make it more than a walkway to the door...unfortunately, it was 'concrete-blocked in' in the 1960s... it'll be a major improvement to see it back as it should be...!

133 Central, approx. 1902. Mr. Swift and his dog are in the photo...
