Skew Arch...?
The world-famous Skew Arch was designed by a deaf-mute Irishman-! There are only two of these amazing arches in the entire world- the other is somewhere in Russia...! What makes it unique is the complex geometry of the stones that fit perfectly together to make it work- somewhat near as complicated as the Egyptian Pyramids, they were cut to create an angled bridge strong enough for two heavy Trains to pass at the same time. The Skew Arch crosses over Jackson Street- which is a two minute walk from 133 Central to the Silver Creek Beach.

Two things make it unique- being an angled span- and... designed by a deaf-mute Irishman...??

The image above shows the precisely designed, cut and installed Granite stone blocks that make up the arch- an art form lost in today's world of poured concrete and steel structures. You'll be seeing and walking under what may represent the highest form of man's creative genious and mathematical precision, blended with precise artisanwork- it may be the finest example of man's capability in a world before computers and our chemically advanced age- the Skew Arch is the ultimate expression of the advancement of man as a 'cave dweller'.

Note the furthest section of the arch in the image above- it is a concrete addition to the arch- which constantly requires care and upkeep. The stone arch itself remains as sturdy as when it was made- a further testament to natural elements vs. man-made.

The image below is a detail from a map of Silver Creek in 1892- before the Skew Arch was built. Note the wooden and steel bridge the arch replaced on Jackson Street...
