Leonora's
Trip...

The trip
from Livonia to Silver Creek was by stage coach back in 1873- 115 miles
at about 15 miles an hour! Without stops for the horses, it would have
taken seven and a half hours!
The straightest
route was what is now Route 20, through Attica, before the prison existed...
( By the way, our family owned about a mile of land in Attica, that
Leonora most probably travelled on- and maybe even stopped in to visit!
Art Maecker restored a farmhouse there when we were kids, that was probably
beautiful and new in those early days...)
The train
was a new form of transportation backthen- exciting and fast- and could
take you anywhere across the country, from the Silver Creek Train Station,
a half block from 133 Central...
Today, The
fastest path is Routes 390 and 90- about a two hour trip! (see Mapquest
above-)

Livonia
at the time was a prospering, wealthy area like Silver Creek- Here is
one of the most beautiful barns I've ever seen, in Livonia NY.

The
next photo is of an elaborate Victorian there being repainted...

When the
letters were written, Leonora was about to make that trip- leaving behind
the offer of marriage by Willy. What happened then?
Willy is
buried in the Silver Creek cemetery, Leonora is not by his side. What
happened...? Did they ever see each other again?
